7. Reading Log

  1. Ch.13 summary
  • In ch.12 the witch finally died. Strange noises came from all sides after the witch died. The reason is that the witch cast a spell to destroy the kingdom when she dies. The children, the prince, and puddleglum tried to escape outside. The party had difficulty escaping. There were those who prevented their escape. Therefore, the group kidnapped one of them and tried to find out why. And finally, they kidnapped a dwarf and listened to him to hear the story.

2. Comprehension Questions of Chapter 13 Underland without the Queen

  1. What did Rilian explain?
  • The prince explained that there were many exits on the ground

2. What theory did Puddleglum have about the
strange events in Underworld?

  • When the witch died, he thought, the witch cast a spell on the kingdom to become a ruin.

3. What did the Prince say they should do?

-He said we should save the horses and go up high to find a passage.

4. Why didn’t the Prince want to put on his armor?
What happened to his shield? What did he think it
meant?

He felt the armor was like a prison. The armor also smelled of magic and slavery. The black shield was shining brightly like silver and above it was carved a red lion figure. This phenomenon means that Aslan will be our true master, the prince thought.

5. What does Jill’s attitude toward the horses
show about her courage and character?

  • Through many adventures, she has become a brave person, not a coward anymore.

He was only pursuing freedom. He hated being entangled in something and hated the rich. But as reality approached, he gradually adapted to society.

2. How did Morrie explain the interest people have in
him since his appearance on “Nightline”? Why do
you think he refered to himself as “a bridge”?

-He became more interested in people. He used the term “bridge” because he thought he was in the middle of it, not dead or alive.

3. How did Morrie explain his dying process? How did
Mitch react?

—The professor said dying is just sad and not unhappy. He said he was dying but was not unhappy because he was surrounded by people who loved him. Mitch couldn’t help but be surprised to see the professor who was not at all self-pitied.

4. What did Morrie mean by the “tension of opposites”?
How do you think this phrase exemplifies Mitch’s life
since college?

— Life is a series of pulls back and forth. In other words, we should know how to distinguish between what we want to do and what we have to do. Mitch used to be a free man, but after his uncle’s death, he gave up his life and lived a life of compromise with reality.
